Parent's Association
Through the perseverance of Kevin Collins in African drumming and dancing, the troupe
has been in existence for 12 years; and since made numerous accomplishments
including sponsoring many master dancers and drummers to Flint, MI. Kevin Collins
was prompted to involve the parents of students and the community -- thus began the
"African Drum and Dance Parent Association" with Cornelia Monroe. Kevin Collins
understands the value of mentors, which has led him to work with hundreds of children
through programs offered by the Greater Flint Arts Council, Flint Community Schools,
and the Christ Episcopal Center. Through these hands on sessions many children have
experienced the joy of playing the instruments themselves. The African Drum and Dance
Troupe will be celebrating their 11th Annual "Kuungana" Festival on November 14 -16,
2008.
