Services We Provide
The African Drum and Dance Troupe was the brain child of
Baba Collins, in an effort to teach children about their rich
heritage through playing African Drums and learning African
Dance steps. His desire was to improve the self-esteem of
African American children in the city of Flint. His first classes
were held at several local elementary schools in the Flint
area. Although attendance was low (due to the lack of
knowledge in the community) Baba Collins continued to
pursue his dream of making sure, that all children that he
encountered gained valuable information and developed a
sense of pride, regarding their rich African heritage. While
continuing to train at the already contracted schools, his vast
knowledge and superior training techniques began to filter
out throughout Michigan and the United States as well.
Baba Collins knew then he had to develop a permanent
class and Troupe of Drummers and Dancers that could
teach and perform on a regular basis. Baba Collins has
formed the Kevin Collins Kunngana Drum and Dance
Troupe. class participation of 50 regular and strong
participants meets twice a week in Flint, MI. All participants
are allowed to participate in local and regional workshops
and performance, while veteran participants travel with Baba
Collins throughout the United States and the world over.
Baba Collins’ dream of developing a full fledge academic
facility has yet to be developed, but with his determination
and longevity in the community his dream will soon come to
fruition.
